and may you have a.....

Easter is observed by the churches of the West on the
first Sunday following the full moon that occurs on or following the
spring equinox (March 2I). So Easter became a "movable" feast which
can occur as early as March 22 or as late as April 25

Christian churches in the East which were closer to the birthplace
of the new religion and in which old traditions were strong,
observe Easter according to the date of the Passover festival

Easter is a time of springtime festivals. In Christian countries Easter
is celebrated as the religious holiday commemorating the resurrection
of Jesus Christ, the son of God. But the celebrations of Easter have
many customs and legends that are pagan in origin and have nothing
to do with Christianity

I found a great poem on the web just for Easter. It was written
by a young guy,
but now he has passed on to that better place.

Easter Meal Prayer

Use this prayer throughout the 50 days of Easter. Place water on the table
and bless it on Easter Sunday. Have on the table a new candle that will be
your "Easter Candle", your symbol of Christ's light in your midst.

(light the Easter candle)

This is the day the Lord has made, alleluia!
Let us rejoice and be glad, alleluia!
We praise you, God of Life,
for you have always fulfilled your promises to your people!
The lost have been found, the hungry have been fed,
prisoners set free, the dead raised to life.
Christ is risen, alleluia!
Christ is truly risen, alleluia!
We praise you, Christ Jesus,
Lord of Life and Love!
Gather with us here at our table
and bless us with your presence.
May these gifts of food and love,
strengthen us so that we may serve you with joy.
Bless all who do not have enough to eat this night (day)
and give them hope in you.
Amen.

The time from Ash Wednesday until Easter is a period in which Christians the
world over prepare for and reflect on the tremendous act of love shown in
Jesus' Christ death on the cross for the salvation of all.

Of all the symbols associated with Easter the egg,
the symbol of fertility and new life, is the most identifiable.
The customs and traditions of using eggs have been
associated with Easter for centuries

"Here comes Peter Cottontail
hoppin' down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppity Easter's on its way!"

The Easter bunny has its origin in pre-Christian fertility
lore. The Hare and the Rabbit were the most fertile animals
known and they served as symbols of the new life during the
Spring season.

The Easter bunny was introduced to American folklore
by the German settlers who arrived in the Pennsylvania
Dutch country during the 1700s. The arrival of the "Oschter
Haws" was considered "childhood's greatest pleasure" next
to a visit from Christ-Kindel on Christmas Eve. The children
believed that if they were good the "Oschter Haws" would
lay a nest of colored eggs.
